A Glimpse into April 2024 Sales Figures

China's competitive EV market saw varying performance in April 2024 with Xiaomi, NIO, Li Auto leading the race, and Hongmeng Zhixing emerging as a strong contender.

According to the Association of Vehicle Manufacturers, passenger car retail sales in April totaled around 1.6 million units. Among them, new energy vehicle retail sales are estimated to exceed 720,000 units, nearly the same as in March but up 37.1% year over year. The penetration rate is estimated to be 45.0%. On May 1st, new automobile manufacturers released their April sales figures. Let us have a look at Autocango:

Xiaomi Auto received orders for almost 88,000 units within 34 days of its launch and delivered 7,058 units in its first month. Li Auto, NIO, and Leapmotor are the top three new car manufacturers in terms of delivery volume. NETA and XPeng failed to provide more than 10,000 units per month. Among the new energy brands nurtured by conventional automakers, Hongmeng Zhixing's S7 model saw improved sales, establishing itself as a viable rival. In contrast, GAC Aion and VOYAH both had a month-on-month reduction in sales.

In April, Li Auto supplied roughly 25,800 vehicles, representing a 0.4% increase year on year and an 11.03% decline month on month. By the end of April this year, Ideal Auto had delivered about 740,000 vehicles.

NIO delivered 15,600 vehicles in April, up 134.6% year on year and 31.6% month on month, demonstrating the effectiveness of its price reduction plan.

In April, Leapmotor delivered more than 15,000 new vehicles, a 71.96% increase year on year. The SUV models C11 and C10 both surpassed 10,000 unit deliveries. Notably, the Leapmotor C16 was released and pre-ordered worldwide. It is positioned as a medium-to-large 6-seater SUV and is the first vehicle to include an 800V silicon carbide high-voltage platform. Its ultimate top-of-the-line version will cost no more than 200,000 yuan and will be delivered and launched in June. Official records reveal that orders exceeded 11,950 units in 24 hours.

XPeng supplied 9,393 new automobiles in April, up 33% year on year and 4% month on month. The XPeng X9 delivered 1,959 units, totaling nearly 10,000 units in four months after its launch. XPeng has delivered 31,200 new automobiles this year, a 23% increase over last year.

In contrast, NETA was the only new car-making force to witness a year-on-year fall in April, with the lowest delivery rate. In April, it delivered 9,017 units, a decrease of 18.62% year on year and an increase of 7.8% month on month, marking the third straight month of decline. NETA stated that orders for the newly introduced NETA L have topped 15,000 units since its April 22 launch date.

In April, Hongmeng Zhixing delivered around 29,600 new vehicles throughout its complete lineup. Among these, the M9 supplied about 13,400 units, the new M7 delivered approximately 10,900 units, and the new M5, which was announced on April 23, received 4,031 large orders within 24 hours of debut. Notably, the Smart World was added to Hongmeng Zhixing's sales data, and the S7 sold 4,546 copies that month.

In April, GAC Aion's global sales hit 28,100 units, a 12.2% decrease month on month. Between January and April, its global cumulative sales were approximately 101,600 units.

Zeekr supplied 16,100 units in April, up 99% year on year and 24% month on month. From January to April, Zeekr deliveries climbed by 111% year on year.

VOYAH shipped 4,003 units in April, up 20% year on year but down 34.6% month on month. It delivered 20,300 new automobiles in the first four months of this year, a 126% rise over the same period last year. This month, Avatr delivered 5,247 units, up 226% year on year and 4.6% month on month. Deepal Motors delivered 12,700 units in the same month, a 25.2% decrease month over month.
