CPCA: CATL and BYD Maintain a Combined 70% Market Share in Power Batteries in 2024

On January 18th, Cui Dongshu, Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association, stated that the competitive landscapeof battery companies is characterized by the relatively strong positions of CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited) and BYD. Currently, the gap between BYD and CATL remains significant. BYD's market share has increased from15% in 2020 to 25% in 2024, rising to 26% in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, CATL's market share in the fourth quarter dropped to 43%. Other battery companies have also seen a clear divergence in their market shares. In 2024,the combined market share of CATL and BYD in power batteries remains at 70%, leaving other companies with a market space of about 30%.

CATL Becomes Preferred Supplier for the World's Largest Energy Storage Project

On January 19th, Masdar, the UAE's energy company, announced that CATL has been selected as the preferred battery energy storage system supplier for the world's largest solar and battery combined energy storage project, the UAE RTC. The project, with a total investment exceeding $6 billion, includes a battery energy storage project with a total capacity of 19GWh and a photovoltaic project with a capacity of 5.2GW. CATL will provide its Tianheng battery energy storage system for this collaboration.

BYD Holds the First Dynasty Festival of 2025, Officially Launching the Han L and Tang L

BYD recently held its first Dynasty Festival of 2025. In 2024, BYD's Dynasty brand achieved a sales volume of 2.09 million units, with six major vehicle IPs under its umbrella: Han, Tang, Qin, Song, Yuan, and the newly launched MPV named "Xia." At the festival, BYD unveiled its new dual-flagship models, the Han L and Tang L. The Dragon Faced esign, a signature aesthetic of BYD, was also upgraded to the new "LoongFace" design, reflecting a deeper integration of Chinese cultural elements and BYD's exploration of national trends.

BYD to Launch the Sealion 7 Electric SUV in India

On January 18th, BYD India held a press conference, announcing the launch of the Sealion 7 electric SUV in India. Previously, BYD had introduced models such as the Atto 3, Seal, and eMAX 7 in the Indian market.
