Top five Chinese domestic automakers’ September sales are released recently during the China’s National Day Holiday.
In China, September and October are considered to be the peak season for auto sales. Driven by Chinese government favorable policies and rising consumer demand, the top Chinese domestic automakers are seeing significant sales growth. The leading ones like BYD, Chery, and Geely are reporting robust increases, while GW Motors and Changan Auto decline.
BYD: Record-Breaking 420,000 Sales in September
BYD sold 419,426 units in September, reaching a record high. Cumulatively from January to September, BYD sold over 2.736 million units of passenger cars, a step closer to its annual sales target of 3.6 million units.
BYD Highlights:
- The BYD Dynasty and Ocean lineup family contributes 401,600 units in September, marking a year-on-year increase of 46.7%.
- BYD’s sub-brands Denza, Fang Cheng Bao and Yangwang sold 10,299 units, 5,422 units and 310 units, respectively in September.
- BYD's overseas sales reached 33,000 units in September.
Chery: 245,000 Sales in September
Chery Group sold 244,534 units in September, marking a 28.6% increase year-on-year, and cumulatively from January to September, Chery sold 1,752,793 vehicles, gaining a year-on-year increase of 39.9%.
Chery Highlights: Growth in NEVs, Gasoline Vehicles, as well as Exports
- Chery exported 109,048 units overseas in September, marking a year-on-year rise of 20.6%, and cumulatively exported 829,353 units in the first nine months, a 24.5% increase year-on-year.
- Chery’s NEV sales was strong, too, selling 58,941 NEVs in September, making a robust increase of 183.4% year-on-year, and cumulatively selling 331,788 units in the first nine months, a 186.4% increase year-on-year.
- It’s impressive that Chery sold 1,421,005 units of gasoline vehicles in September, a year-on-year increase of 24.9%, and sold 1,421,005 units in the first nine months, a 24.9% increase year-on-year.
- From the matrix of sub-brands, from January to September, Chery, Exeed (星途), the Jetour (捷途) and iCar achieved a sales volume of 1,113,541 units, 95,946 units, 376,672 units and 42,798 units (iCar entered the market seven months ago), respectively.
Geely: Over 200,000 Sales in September
Geely Automobile Group sold 201,949 units in September, cumulatively sold 545,854 vehicles in the first nine months, gaining a significant year-on-year increase of 93%.
Geely Highlights:
- Geely sold 91,134 units of NEVs in September, making up 45% of its total sales.
- Geely also achieved an increase on overseas exports in September. Geely exported 39,183 units abroad this month, marking a year-on-year increase of 51%. Cumulatively, Geely has exported a total of 314,038 units in the first three quarters this year.
- From the matrix of sub-brands, Geely brand sold 154,813 units in September, including Geely Galaxy (吉利银河新能源) series, China Star • High-end series (吉利中国星), Lynk, and Zeekr, achieving 29,047 units, 42,972 units, 25,803 units, and 21,333 units sold respectively.
Great Wall Motors: 110,000 sold in September
Great Wall Motors only sold 108,000 units in September, down 10.88% year-on-year. Cumulatively, Great Wall Motors sold a total of 853,813 units in the first nine months, a drop of 22.25% year-on-year.
Look into the sales performance of its sub-brands, only Tank (坦克) and WEY (魏牌) saw a rise in sales, achieving 6,755 units and 18,740 units respectively. Other sub-brands, like Ora (欧拉), Haval (哈弗) and the Great Wall Pao (长城皮卡长城炮) saw a significant drop in sales.
Changan: 213,200 sold in September
Changan Automobile's September sales reached over 213,000 units, down 9.98% year-on-year. Cumulatively, Changan sold 1,905,000 vehicles from January to September.
At the sub-brand level, Changan’s NEV brand Deepal (长安深蓝) achieved sales of 22,709 units in September, Avatr (阿维塔) 4,537 units, and Qiyuan (启源) 11,615 units.
