Nio's (NYSE: NIO) second brand, codenamed Alps, adopts the name Onvo in English and Ledao (乐道) in Chinese, as revealed by recent spy shots.
Two clear spy photos of a model believed to be under Nio's second brand surfaced on Chinese social media platforms today, showcasing various details of the vehicle.
The rear of the vehicle displays its English brand name as Onvo, its Chinese brand name as Ledao (乐道), and its model number as L60.
In contrast to Nio's NT 2.0 platform-based models, which typically feature a roof-mounted LiDAR and side cameras, these spy photos indicate the absence of LiDAR on top of the vehicle but suggest the presence of cameras on each side of the windshield.
These observations align with earlier media reports. On January 17, local media outlet HiEV, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that Alps' smart driving system will rely on a single Nvidia Orin X chip, eliminating the need for LiDAR.
By opting for a single Orin chip and omitting LiDAR, Alps aims to distinguish its smart driving solution from the Nio brand, as reported by HiEV.
The anticipated starting price of Alps' first car is expected to range between RMB 200,000 ($27,800) and RMB 250,000. The goal is to incorporate pilot-assisted driving in urban areas upon delivery, according to the report.
With more affordable smart driving solutions, Alps stands poised to disrupt the market, as highlighted in the report.
