Xiaomi held a press conference on March 28, officially launching its SU7 electric sedan. The market response was overwhelmingly positive, with 50,000 orders received within just 27 minutes of its release, marking a significant success. However, the future trajectory of Xiaomi's automotive venture remains to be seen, leaving observers eagerly anticipating what comes next.
The Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan priced it at a starting point of RMB 215,900 yuan ($29,870) – a figure 30,000 yuan lower than the starting price of the Tesla Model 3 in China.
According to reports from domestic media, Xiaomi could potentially launch an SUV model by the end of this year.
With Xiaomi's first foray into the sedan market now complete, the SUV remains a crucial vehicle segment in today's market. It's logical for Xiaomi's next vehicle to focus on creating an SUV with larger interior space, catering to family needs.
Autocango has learned that Xiaomi began discussions with Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC) at the end of August last year regarding the outsourcing of manufacturing for new energy vehicles. However, the two parties did not reach a final agreement. In October last year, Xiaomi initiated talks with Beijing Blue Valley (BAIC BluePark New Energy Technology Co., Ltd.) and Huachen Automobile Group regarding production-related matters, although the specific form of cooperation remains unknown.
