Shanghai to Establish National Automotive Chip Quality Inspection Center
On November 27, the State Administration for Market Regulation of China approved the Shanghai Motor Vehicle Testing and Certification Technology Research Center Co., Ltd. to establish the National Automotive Chip Quality Inspection and Testing Center. This center will address industry needs by developing a testing system to support automotive chip applications. It aims to fill domestic gaps in chip testing and validation technologies, creating capabilities for performance, reliability, vehicle specification adaptability, and in-vehicle operational scenarios.
Passenger Car Market Sees Robust Growth in November
The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) reported on November 27 that passenger car retail volume during November 1-24 reached 1.638 million units, marking a 29% year-on-year increase and a 4% rise compared to the previous month. Notably, the new energy vehicle (NEV) segment showed an even more impressive uptick, with retail sales hitting 867,000 units, up 68% from the same period last year and 7% higher than the previous month.
China EV100: Nine Fast-Growing Segments in the NEV Industry
According to a new report from China EV100, an influential think tank under the China Electric Vehicle Association, nine segments in the new energy vehicle (NEV) industry are rapidly emerging. These include automotive data, software services, NEV insurance, used car inspections, power battery recycling, autonomous travel, vehicle-network interaction services, new eco-friendly components, and 'vehicle-road-cloud' industry models, all presenting multi-dimensional revenue growth opportunities for businesses. By 2030, the automotive data industry's market size is expected to reach 600 billion yuan. Moreover, McKinsey anticipates that from 2020 to 2030, the global automotive software market’s compound annual growth rate will be 9.5%, expanding from $34 billion to $84 billion. Additionally, the Robotaxi market is projected to reach $7.842 billion by 2032, with a compound annual growth rate exceeding 75%.
Geely Recognized as a 'Zero-Waste Enterprise'
Geely Automotive Group announced on November 27 that it has been listed among the first batch of 'Zero-Waste Enterprises' by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China. Geely is the only automotive manufacturer to receive this recognition, underlining its commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles and its efforts to reduce pollution and carbon emissions in its production processes. The group is actively advancing the construction of 'Zero-Waste Factories.'
Hesai Technology to Reduce Laser Radar Prices by Half in 2024
Hesai Technology revealed plans on November 27 to cut the prices of its main laser radar products by half next year. The next-generation ATX laser radar, which Hesai will launch for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in 2024, will be priced under $200, significantly lower than the current AT128 model. The company is also exploring opportunities to build production facilities overseas.
