China's MIIT Unveils High-Profile NIO ET9, Denza N9, and BYD Xia
It’s Q4 of 2024 now, the automakers are preparing the launch of their new models in November, in order to seize the holiday sales season at the end of the year. We can see several latest announcements released by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), showcasing the upcoming high-profile car model. NIO ET9
The NIO ET9 is a four-seat executive flagship sedan by the Chinese NEV startup NIO, with a pre-sale price of ¥800,000.
1) Design: the NIO ET9 follows NIO's family design language, with no special design. Also we learn from the MIIT that there’re some standard configurations for all trims of ET9, which are so useful, for example, the intelligent high-definition projection headlights (HDPL), smart sensing electric doors, and electric retractable rear wing.
2) Interior and Technology
Inside the cabin, the design is simple and tech-savvy. At the front row, there is a 15.6-inch floating AMOLED central control screen, a flat-bottom steering wheel and a shift-by-wire.
At the rear row, there are two 14.5-inch executive screens, an 8-inch multifunction control screen, tray table, and a refrigerator, offering comfort for passengers. Besides, the rear seats support up to 45-degree recline, and massage function.
3) Power and Performance:
The car is equipped with NIO's latest innovations, such as the self-developed Shenji chip, the SkyOS operating system, and Tianxing Intelligent Chasses System, etc.
Built on the integrated 900V high-voltage architecture, the car will gain 255 km of range in 5-minute charging.
The car has robust powertrain, can boost a combined power output of 520 kW, and achieve a top speed of 220 km/h.
Denza N9
MIIT also released the information of BYD-backed Denza N9 sedan. This model adopts BYD’s Yisanfang (易三方) technology. It is reported that the Denza N9 will be launched by the end of 2024.
1) Larger in Dimensions:
The Denza N9 measures 5258 mm, 2030 mm, , and 1830 mm in length, width, and height, with a 3125 mm wheelbase, larger than its main competitors, such as the Li Auto L9 and the AITO M9.
2) External Features:
There are electronic side mirrors and a LiDAR sensor on the car, according to the picture shown on the MIIT.
3) Powertrain:
Thanks to the Yisanfang technology, the car combine a 2.0T turbocharged engine and a tri-motor plug-in hybrid system, producing a total of 590kW. The car’s 46.992 kWh battery pack will offer a pure electric range of 165 km.
BYD Xia MPV
The BYD Xia, under BYD’s Dynasty series, is listed on MIIT as well. The mid-to-large MPV, debut at the 2024 Chengdu Auto Show, will be launched in Q4 2024.
1) Dimensions: the Xia MPV has a length, width, and height of 5145 mm, 1970 mm, and 1805 mm, respectively, and has a wheelbase of 3045 mm. We can see that the car features electric sliding doors for passengers get in and out easily, from the pictures. We assumed that this special design will match potential users for both business and family use.
2) Intelligent Technology: the car is equipped with the DiPilot intelligent driving assistance system, enhancing the overall smart travel experience for the driver.
3) Power Options:
-According to MIIT, the car will offer three power systems: DM-i, DM-p, and pure electric.
- For hybrid system, the Xia features a 1.5T engine with BYD’s 5th-generation DM-i super hybrid technology.
- The car offers two options, one is 20.39 kWh, and another is 38 kWh, providing electric ranges of 80 km and 145 km, respectively, both are BYD’s blade battery.
