Blaze of Partnership: Huawei and Great Wall Motor to Boost Smart Travel
The “HUAWEI HiCar Integration Development Cooperation Agreement” was signed by Great Wall Motor and Huawei at the 2024 Huawei Developer Conference, according to Great Wall Motor. The two parties will work together under this agreement to explore more possibilities for smart travel and provide users with more convenient and intelligent travel experiences.
Agreement Spurs Tasks into Action
Immediately after the news got out, Great Wall Motor shares rose by 1.57% to 25.8 yuan. According to the agreement, Great Wall Motor will be one of the first car companies to have access to Huawei HiCar product’s source code, development tools, and other deep development resources. It is from here that the two teams will further create a development ecosystem; on one side accelerating adaptation of HUAWEI HiCar relevant products across Great Wall Motor products, while on other hand exploring together product updates and creating more cutting-edge capabilities that will consistently enrich driving experience on user’s end.
In the Pursuit of Innovation
In fact, earlier this year, several models from Great Wall Motor had completed the adaptation of HiCar 4.0, and today the Tank 700 Hi4-T underwent its first OTA upgrade, which also added HiCar, ICCOA, and DLNA.
Models of Huawei's role in Car Industry
Let’s now make clear what the present cooperation models between Huawei and car companies are. Firstly, there is a supplier model where they provide things like radar and sensors; secondly, they have intelligent driving solution —— Qiankun Intelligent Driving ( 乾崑智驾 in Chinese), which is an improvement from the previous HI model; and thirdly there is HIMA (鸿蒙智行 in Chinese) model.
This time, the HiCar mode, that Huawei cooperating with Great Wall, is different. It is pure superficial cooperation model about smartphone-car system interconnection.
Huawei reported ICT business revenue of CNY362 billion in Q1 while intelligent car business revenue was CNY4.7 billion according to its financial statements for the first quarter. Clearly enough, the car BU still has a significant growth opportunity within it.
Perhaps it is a good way for Huawei to quickly expand its car business by exploing more OEMs to increase revenue.
