BAIC's New Bold & Daring: The Second Generation BJ30 Hybrid SUV

BAIC has officially launched the second-generation Beijing BJ30 vehicle in China's fast-growing electric SUV market. With prices ranging between 99,900 and 136,900 yuan, this vehicle aims to capture the "light off-road vehicle" segment.

Robust and capable

The new-generation BJ30 retains the popular "square box" design, but adds rugged lines, roof racks, off-road bumper guards, and a bi-color tailgate. The vehicle increases in length, measuring 4730/1910/1790 mm in length, width, and height, respectively, with a 2820-mm wheelbase.

Breathing Space & Technology

The redesigned interior features a 10.25-inch + 14.6-inch dual display design and an 8155 chip driven by the Yueye Circle App. The flat-bottomed leather steering wheel and an ATS all-terrain control knob also give a touch of elegance to the innovative BJ30.

The car also has adjustable back seats that can be folded flat, extending the depth to 1920mm and providing an increased boot capacity of 1496L. The new BJ30 comes with L2.5 level driving assistance features.

Power Delivered

The BJ30 will be offered in both gasoline and hybrid configurations. The fuel version is powered by a 1.5T engine producing 138 kW, whereas the hybrid variant has a 1.5T engine and an electric motor. The hybrid's 1.5T engine produces a maximum power of 116kW. In addition, the new BJ30 features an electronic timed four-wheel drive system and an all-terrain control system, distinguishing it from the previous generation's front-wheel-drive-only model.

Market Rivals

In its segment, the new BJ30 will compete with the Jetour Traveler, Haval Big Dog, Chery Explore 06 series, and other light off-road SUVs. It will also compete with similarly priced models like as the BYD Song Pro DM-i, the Geely Galaxy L7, and the Toyota Frontlander.

The second-generation Beijing BJ30 represents BAIC's aim to carve out a market niche by introducing lightweight off-road vehicles. It is a bold step forward for BAIC, combining innovative technology and low price to provide a better driving experience for its customers.
