BYD Advances in AI Technology with New Research Center

Recently, Autocango learned from multiple media outlets that BYD is entering into a new phase of intelligentization. AI, computing power, and robotics are with this Chinese traditional EV maker. What movements have BYD done in this field? Let’s find out.

Establishing the Advanced Technology R&D Center

According to media reports, BYD has already established an Advanced Technology Research and Development Center back in this September, focusing on three major businessed, such as intelligent driving, smart cockpits, and dual-mode. Here is the brief info about the Center

-        The Center has several departments including an AI laboratory, an AI supercomputing development department, and a big data platform department

-        The Center is mainly focusing on AI algorithms, AI infrastructure, and large models, among other technologies and platforms

-        The Center has a team of 500 personals, which is intend to be increased to thousands in the near future

Global Recruitment for Embodied Intelligence Research

In addition, BYD is recruiting a "Embodied Intelligence Research Team" globally, indicating that it is entering this thriving and cutting-edge field.

As we all know, embodied intelligence refers to the ability of the intelligent agents (such as humanoid robots) to use physical experiences to inform actions or to feel or adapt into the physical world. The technology is considered as a key direction of AI technology development. Among Chinese companies, except for BYD, carmakers like Xpeng, GAC Group, tech giants like Xiaomi, Huawei, Alibaba and Tencent have all entered this sector.
