BYD and Huawei Collaborate on Intelligent Driving for Fang Cheng Bao 8
Chinese EV giant BYD and Tech giant Huawei are both companies from Shenzhen, China. BYD has advanced technologies on battery, DM-i Hybrid, Yisifang Platform, Yunnian, while Huawei has great advantages on software, ecology and intelligence.
Recently, BYD announced that Fang Cheng Bao Bao 8 will be equipped with Huawei Qiankun ADS 3.0. The integration of Qiankun ADS 3.0 will be the first collaboration between two industry giants, and it will definitely be a powerful combination.
Qiankun ADS 3.0 Intelligent Driving System on More Premium Models
Huawei's Qiankun ADS 3.0 intelligent driving system is set to be a selling point for the Fang Cheng Bao 8. Having introduced to market in April, Qiankun ADS 3.0 has already been deployed in many premium models, such as the Stelato S9 sedan, the Luxeed S7 sedan, the Aito series of SUV models -- Aito M5, Aito M7, and Aito M9, as well as the upcoming Avatr 07.
Despite of the intelligent driving system collaboration, we learned from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) that Fang Cheng Bao Bao 8 will feature a 36.864 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery, produced by BYD subsidiary FinDreams, offering an electric range of up to 100 km.

The MIIT also revealed more information on the Bao :
- Battery and Range: The car boasts a 36.864 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery, providing an electric range of up to 100 km.
- Dimensions: The car measures 5195mm in length, 1994mm in width, and 1875 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2920 mm.
- Performance: The car has a 2-liter BYD487ZQD turbocharged petrol engine generating 200 kW (268 hp), paired with two electric motors producing 200 kW (268 hp) and 300 kW (402 hp), providing a top speed of 180 km/h and accelerating from 0-100 km in 4.8 seconds.
- Off-Road Capabilities: The car’s approach angle is 30 degrees and the departure angle 29 degrees.
- Interior Layout: The car has 6-seater layout and 7-seater layout.
Market Position and Pricing
BYD officially unveiled the Fang Cheng Bao brand on August 16, 2023, Bao 5 off-road SUV was its first model on sale, with a poor performance on sales. Bao 8, positioned as a full-size body-on-frame SUV, will be second model of the brand, which is important for Bao 8 to bring more sales. At the spring launch event, Bao 8 was priced around RMB 500,000 ($69,600), targeting premium SUV segment, with GWM’s Tank 700 Hi4-T being its main competitor. The official launch date for the Bao 8 will be the fourth quarter, according reports.
