It is always big days for automakers to release their sales data in the beginning of every month. Recently, Chinese NEV start-ups unveiled their August performance one by one. The data indicated that two distinct camps emerged: the makers in the first tier sold over 30,000 units, the ones in the second tier sold 10,000 – 20,000 units.

Let’s take a closer look at the performance.

There are several automakers worth mentioning.

Leapmotor's Significant Growth

Firstly, Leapmotor’s sales in August exceeding 30,000 units, gaining a year-on-year increase of 113.5%, and a monthly growth over 37%, making it the third NEV start-up to achieve monthly sales over 30,000 units. The current model on sale includes C01, C10, C11 and C16. C16 has become a hot seller since its launch in June, and delivered 80,000 units in August.

NIO's Consistent Performance

NIO delivered 20,176 units in August, with a year-on-year increase of 35.77%, and it’s the fourth consecutive month for NIO to deliver over 20,000 units. NIO gained the orders with current models including ES8, ES6, EC6, and ET7, covering both SUV and sedan markets. In September, NIO will see the launch and delivery of its sub-brand ONVO’s first model the ONVO L60. Whether NIO’s September sales volume will increase to a high record or not, it depends on whther the ONVO L60 can waves in the market.

HIMA's Competing for the Top Spot

HIMA concluded August with a delivery volume of 33,699 units, falling behind Li Auto again. Currently, there are AITO, Luxeed, and Stelato models on sale, while AITO contributes the most of the sales. Whether the Luxeed S7, Stelato S9, and the upcoming models from HIMA can break through the current slump in sales and catch up with AITO remains unknown. It also remains an uncertain Factor for HIMA to secure more market share I the NEV market.

Neta's Declining Performance

Neta achieved a sales of 11,005 units, a year-on-year decline of 9%, a month-over-month fall of 0.1%, which is lower than ecpectations. In the fiersly competitive A0-class pure electric market, Neta’s competitive edge has weakened, with the olde models lost advantages, and the new models performs poorly. This might be the reason why Neta’s sales haven’t formed a significant growing trend.
