GAC Aion and Didi Autonomous Driving announced on April 7 that their joint venture, Guangzhou Andi Technology, has been approved for a commercial license in China, marking a significant step toward delivering the promise of autonomous vehicles. The joint venture is a significant milestone, since it is the first collaboration between a L4 Autonomous driving technology company and a national automobile manufacturer, with the goal of mass-producing Robotaxi vehicles.
Andi Technology, headquartered in Guangzhou's Huangpu area, is owned equally by Didi Autonomous Driving and GAC Aion. The venture intends to launch its Level 4 autonomous vehicle, a crossover SUV, by 2025, with a total production capacity of 100,000 units. The proposed model is currently undergoing a joint design assessment after completing the product specification.
Built on GAC Aion's AEP 3.0 pure electric platform and outfitted with Didi Autonomous Driving's autonomous hardware and software solutions, the autonomous vehicle will be completely compatible with Didi Autonomous Driving's smart operation system, Huiju Port.
This significant milestone marks the beginning of next-generation autonomous mobility services, which include safe, comfortable, and cost-effective journeys for users via a hybrid dispatch model. While the initial launch aims for scale manufacturing by 2025, plans are ongoing for a gradual deployment of several thousand vehicles integrated into Didi's ride-hailing network.
Backed by Didi's cutting-edge autonomous technology and GAC Aion's expertise in electric vehicle manufacture, the business aims to provide unmatched travel experiences that are suited to the features of ride-share vehicles. This endeavor, which represents a critical growth sector in the ride-sharing market, marks a significant turn toward the widespread commercialization of self-driving vehicles in China.
