May saw sales of new energy vehicles rise in an incredibly strong way. Record-breaking numbers were recorded by both established automakers and creative forces.

NIO's Fortunate Accomplishments

With a total of 20,544 new car deliveries, NIO recorded monthly sales surpassing the exceptional milestone of 20,000 units. This indicates a rise of 31.5% month over month and 233.8% year over year. This accomplishment comes after a comparable one from July of last year.

Zeekr's Rising Trend

Zeekr recently went public in the US and delivered 18,616 new cars in May, an increase of 115% year over year and 16% month over month.

The Robust Growth of Seres Group and Li Auto

Li Auto recorded a 23.8% year-over-year sales gain in May with 35,020 vehicles sold, while Seres Group sold 34,100 new energy vehicles, representing a 298.6% year-over-year sales growth.

May's Leapmotor's Boost

Leapmotor reported selling 18,165 new cars in May, a 50.65% increase over the same month last year. 11,992 of them were C11 and C10 models from the brand.

Other Prominent High Achievers

Notably, over 10,000 vehicles were delivered by both Neta Auto and Xpeng Motors. In May, Xiaomi Automobile delivered 8,630 new cars despite having a limited production capacity.

Conventional Automakers Maintain Their Position

Conventional automakers continued to perform well; BYD reported selling over 331,800 new energy vehicles in May, up 38.13% from the previous year. Impressive sales results were also reported by other established industry giants, such as SAIC Group, Geely Automobile, GAC Aion, and Deepal Automobile.

Looking ahead, the anticipated release of innovative new products like Leapmotor C16 and Onvo L60, the first model of Xpeng MONA, the high-end product co-developed by Huawei and Jianghuai, might potentially spur more growth in the smart electric vehicle industry in the second half of the year.
