SAIC-GM, a JV between General Motors and SAIC, just announced its collaboration with China battery giant CATL to jointly develop and launch the 6C ultra-charging battery.
It is known that the battery will be developed on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, and will be adopted on Ultium's quasi-900 V high-voltage battery architecture. The battery will enable a car to be fully charged in one-sixth of an hour, that is, 10 minutes, which means that the car will get an extra 200km range in 5 minutes. SAIC-GM claimed that this LFP battery will be the first of its kind in the industry.
As planned, the 6C LFP battery will be used on the upgraded models next year, according to SAIC-GM.
