Establishing Novel Collaborative Benchmarks

Recently, Geely Auto Group and STMicroelectronics, a leading global semiconductor company, formalized a long-term supply deal for silicon carbide (SiC) devices. This transaction advances their current partnership.

Encouraging EV Brands

Geely's mid- to high-end battery electric vehicle (BEV) brands will receive SiC power devices from STMicroelectronics in accordance with the agreement. By equiped with the devices, Geely's electric cars should perform better, gainning quicker charging periods, longer driving ranges.

A Collaboration Lab

The two businesses have also made the decision to work together on a joint laboratory, which will accelerate the research for novel approaches in a range of automotive applications. The lab is supposed to cover new energy vehicles, infotainment systems in cars, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Cutting-edge Technology

STMicroelectronics' SiC MOSFETs may significantly increase the efficiency of electric drive inverters, which are crucial parts of electric drive systems. As far as we know, the third-generation SiC MOSFETs from STMicroelectronics are already used in Geely's electric drive inverters.

Continued Investing in China

Up until now, STMicroelectronics has shown a consistent dedication to the Chinese market. In order to meet the growing demands of Chinese consumers, it announced in June of last year that it would form a joint venture with SANAN Optoelectronics to construct an 8-inch SiC device production facility in Chongqing.

Geely's Current Sale Performance

According to latest data, Geely Auto Group sold more than 160,000 cars in May 2024, demonstrating a strong sales increase. It is also shown that there was a  remarkable growth in their new energy vehicles. In the first five months of 2024, Geely Auto Group sold 254,226 new energy vehicles, a 126% increase over the same period the previous year.
