Tesla Surprise: Updated Model 3 Lands in China

Tesla announces via its Weibo account on June 18 that it is delivering the updated Model 3 Performance vehicles in China. The American electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer emphasized the model’s 0-100 acceleration capability of 3.1-second and its maximum speed that stands at 261 km/h.

It was expected that Model 3 Performance would start deliveries no earlier than in the Q3.

Power Meets Performance

The updated Model 3 Performance was launched in China by Tesla and pre-order sales commenced on April 24 at 335,900 yuan. This new vehicle is a high-performance version with dual motor AWD system having 460 horsepower at max output, acceleration rate of 0-100km/h within 3.1 seconds, and it delivers a CLTC range of 623 kilometers.

Range of Choices: Delivery Waiting Times

There are two other variations of the Model 3 which start from 231,900 and 271,900 Yuan respectively. According to Tesla China’s website, all three duet models can be purchased at delivery waiting times ranging between 1 and 6 weeks.

Model Y: Three Editions to Choose From

Another Tesla car now available in China is model Y which also has three editions. The starting prices for these vehicles are respectively RMB249,900, RMB290,900 and RMB354,900.

Sales Numbers Speak Volumes

As per CAPC data that was recently released, Tesla sold 39985 units of the Model Y, and 15,230 units of the Model 3 in May alone. Between January and May, they sold 52,349 units of the Model 3 as well as 166,707 units of the Model Y totally.
