Zeekr to Start Building Showrooms in Japan in Q4 for 2025 Market Entry
Zeekr to start building showrooms in Japan in Q4 for local market entry in 2025
According to Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) official, the company is expecting to build showrooms in Japan’s Tokyo and Osaka by this year, and is planning to start selling and delivering its premium vehicles there in 2025.
Recently, Chen Yu, Zeekr’s VP told the media that, Zeekr plans to enter the Japanese automotive market in 2025. The company will begin construction of showrooms in both Tokyo and Osaka later this year.
Strategic Expansion
Zeekr is making great efforts to expand overseas. It has entered more than 30 mainstream overseas markets including Sweden, Holland, Thailand and Mexico, and etc. Entering the Japanese market will be one strategic step for Zeekr. For the whole year this year, Zeekr is expecting to enter 50 mainstream international markets.
Market Challenges and Opportunities
Additionally, the Zeekr X Right-hand Drive edition has started delivery in Thailand and Singapore. As right-hand drive models are used in Japanese market, we speculate that Zeekr may launch its Zeekr X Right-hand Drive models there.
As far as we know, only BYD has introduced three models into Japanese auto market, including Atto 3, Dolphin EV, and Seal EV Sedan, with an annual sales volume of 1,300 units last year.
Actually, the new energy vehicle market in Japan is developing slow, the consumers there shows less interest in NEVs, because of the high cost of electricity, and limited number of charging stations. BYD and Zeekr focus on establishing brand recognition and influence in the Japanese auto market, in order to lay a solid foundation for future development.
