MIIT: Advanced Autonomous Driving Technology Expected to Achieve New Major Breakthroughs

On October 17, the 2024 World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference opened in Beijing. Jin Zhuanglong, the Minister of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China, stated that with the rapid development of high computing power, big data, and large models, advanced autonomous driving technology is expected to achieve new major breakthroughs, and intelligent connected vehicles will enter a brand-new stage of development. China will promote the industry's new development from four aspects. First, in terms of integrated innovation, China will focus on key areas such as the new generation of electronic and electrical architectures, high computing power chips, domain controllers, and ultra-intelligent systems, using data to promote the integrated development of automobiles with smart grids, intelligent transportation, and smart cities. Second, China will expand application scenarios, conduct in-depth pilot applications of vehicle-road-cloud integration, and continuously expand multi-scenario applications such as logistics, public transportation, taxis, and sanitation. Third, China will improve standards and regulations, promote the revision of road traffic safety and insurance laws and regulations, establish and improve the supervision system for high-level autonomous driving, and accelerate the formulation of standards for functional safety, cyber security, and data security.

SAMR Releases Version 1.0 of the Automotive Chip Quality Certification Review Technical System

On October 17, the State Administration for Market Regulation of China released Version 1.0 of the Automotive Chip Quality Certification Review Technical System. The SAMR has preliminarily established a certification standard system covering the entire industrial chain of automotive chips, and proposed a set of technical systems for the safety and reliability quality certification review of automotive chips.

Huawei Yu Chengdong: ADS 4.0 to Launch the Commercialization of L3 Autonomous Driving on Highways and Urban L3 Pilot in 2025

On October 17, at the 2024 World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference, Yu Chengdong, Huawei's Executive Director, Chairman of the Terminal BG, and Chairman of the Smart Car Solutions BU, stated that the penetration rate of 5G in passenger cars in 2024 is only 10.7%, and the intelligent connected technology used in cars is seriously lagging behind the development of 5G communication network connection. He suggested accelerating the adoption of 5G technology in vehicles, which has significant strategic value. Yu Chengdong also stated that L3 autonomous driving is expected to achieve commercialization next year at the earliest and recommended accelerating the legislation of related standards. According to him, Huawei's ADS 4.0 will launch L3 autonomous driving for commercial use on highways and urban L3 autonomous driving pilot in 2025.

Lei Jun revealed that Xiaomi Group's R&D expenditure is expected to reach 24 billion yuan this year and is expected to exceed 30 billion yuan next year, and that breakthroughs in Xiaomi's smart car driving technology will be announced soon.
