China's Inaugural Energy Law Takes Effect, Targeting an Additional 20 GW of Wind and Solar Installations by 2025

On January 1st, China's inaugural Energy Law came into effect, marking a significant milestone in the country's energy policy. This groundbreaking legislation incorporates hydrogen energy into national law for the first time, defining its role as an energy source and establishing the legal status of green certificates. The law encourages the preferential use of renewable energy and supports the development of new technologies, business models, and paradigms, such as advanced energy storage and intelligent microgrids. In 2024, China's total installed capacity of wind and solar power reached 1.35 billion kilowatts, fulfilling its commitment to the global community six years ahead of schedule. By 2025, it is anticipated that an additional 20 billion kilowatts of wind and solar installations will be added, leading to greener electricity for residents and the ability for new energy vehicles to be charged with clean power.
