Biden Announces Investigation into Chinese Production of Essential Chips
On December 23, the Biden administration announced that it will initiate an investigation into essential chips (also known as traditional or mature node semiconductors, widely used in automobiles) manufactured in China. These semiconductors are crucial in the automotive industry. The objective of the investigation is to determine if China's actions regarding these semiconductors are "unreasonable" or "discriminatory," potentially imposing burdens on U.S. trade. Should this be the case, future U.S. administrations may consider implementing retaliatory measures, including imposing tariffs or restricting imports.
