BYD Launches SHARK Pickup in Brazil

BYD has officially launched its SHARK pickup in Brazil, recently. The starting price is 66,700USD, approximately 474,300 yuan.

Impressive Dimensions and Load Capacity

The BYD SHARK pickup measures 5457 mm long, 1971 mm wide, 1925 mm high, with a 3260 mm wheelbase. The pickup offers a large cargo space of 1450 liters, and it can  load 835 kilograms.

Advanced Hybrid Powertrain

Built on BYD's DMO Super Hybrid Off-Road Platform, the SHARK features a robust powertrain, and achieves an impressive performance and fuel efficiency:

The BYD SHARK pickup has a 1.5T engine, two motors, boosting a combined output of over 430 horsepower. The car can achieve a 0-100 km/h acceleration of just 5.7 seconds.

Strong Market Reception and Future Prospects

The BYD SHARK began pre-sale on October 3rd, and has already secured 1,500 orders in about 20 days. BYD Brazil's Commercial Director Henrique Antunes told the media that the SHARK pickup is looking forward an annual sales between 10,000 and 15,000 units, aiming to rank among the top five mid-size pickups in Brazil.

BYD's Global Expansion Strategy

BYD has an ambitious global expansion strategy with two established production facilities in Thailand and Uzbekistan, and four more plants under construction in Brazil, Hungary, Indonesia and Turkey, expecting to start production during 2025-2027. These overseas factories will be the main production base for the SHARK pickup.

Chinese Pickups Gaining Ground Globally

In recent years, Chinese car exports saw great increase and Chinese cars are gaining reputation in the global market, including Chinese pickups. Chinese pickups models from SAIC MAXUS, GWM, Changan have made their way into the top ten best-sellers in countries like Australia, Mexico, South Africa, and Nigeria.
