The new Haval H9, the latest addition to Great Wall Motor's range, had its formal premiere on May 8 as it rolled off the production line at the Yongchuan factory in Chongqing, China. The SUV is scheduled to be officially launched this year, with a starting price of roughly 170,000 yuan ($23,500) and available in both gasoline and diesel engines.
Dimension and Positioning
The new Haval H9 is classified as a medium-to-large hard-core SUV, with dimensions of 5070/1960 (1976)/1930 mm and a 2850 mm wheelbase. Buyers will be able to choose between a five- or seven-seater arrangement. The Haval H9 aspires to enter China's off-road SUV market, which is currently dominated by Japanese and American-imported vehicles. Surprisingly, the brand is also regarded as the preferred military vehicle in countries such as Cambodia and Bangladesh.
Design and Features
The Haval H9, which will be on display at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, comes in four different exterior body colors: green, gray, white, and matte black. Its square-bodied design emphasizes its off-road SUV identity, with an external spare tyre, towing hooks, and three differential locks situated in the front, center, and rear. The gasoline vehicles are outfitted with 17/18/19-inch rims, while the diesel variants only come with 18-inch wheels.
Power Specifications and Interior
Under the hood, the H9 features a 2.0T gasoline engine with an 8AT system or a 2.4T diesel engine with a 9AT system. The gasoline variant has a maximum power output of 165 kW, while the diesel model produces 137 kW.
The interior has two color schemes: black and brown, with the majority of physical buttons retained. It comes with a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, an instrument panel, a 14.6-inch floating center control screen, and a large gear lever. The option to convert the rear seats to a bed through automatic folding gives users more freedom.
Finally, the new Haval H9 exemplifies Great Wall Motors' engineering creativity by striking a balance between off-road prowess and everyday usability. It has the ability to transform the SUV scene and take the market by storm when it launches later this year.
